Those of us who are lucky, find a small piece of the world that feels like “home.” Carrie Hauman who came to Los Angeles, via Toledo and Texas, found “home” in Venice, a unique artistic cul-de-sac off the beaten path, that historically welcomes originals. Carrie, a writer, painter and interior designer, created an original boutique, COUTULA (Couture and LA squished together),in a cozy Venice bungalow, where people from all over, like to shop not only because of her unique taste, but because no matter where they’re from, it feels like home.

“Coutula has great vibes, because this little house used to be a flower essence shop, called Audrey’s Good Vibrations, and all the good vibes are still here,” says Hauman. The bright flowers painted on the floor add a fun playful feeling to the design of the shop, and pay homage to the good vibrations.

Known for it’s handpicked, limited edition jewelry, and timeless elegant, easy going clothes, Coutula also has unique gifts. While you’re browsing the shelves you will find, a much-beloved children’s Book, “Zoe the Magic Love dog,” written by Carrie and illustrated with her own original paintings, published under her own imprimatur, Alma Press. Often, when Carrie is there, a special treat is finding her real love dog, Zoe, asleep at her feet.
